Energy Storage Case Study

Project Definition:

RMI was asked to assist a start-up company with investigating the rapidly expanding energy storage market with the specific purpose to identify unmet needs.

Approach:

The competitive landscape was researched for intellectual property, current academic research and commercially available products.  Competitor profiles were created to understand segmentation, value proposition, sales/distribution channels, trends and market communication.  The market was then quantified by region and segment.  Finally, consumer and macro-market trends were qualified for a 3-5 year horizon.

Deliverables:

A market requirements document (MRD) was provided that summarized the research conducted.  The MRD compiles mass amounts of data into a very logical, concise format that includes specific problems and challenges currently experienced in the target market.  Specific recommendations for under-served or completely unmet needs are highlighted.  A scoring approach is included to compare other market opportunities based on a unique methodology.

Results:

RMI conducted the market research in a comprehensive and timely manner.  They have the ability to synthesize mass amounts of data into actionable guidance. The MRD helped us refine our approach to the market, saving valuable time and money.
